CJCT hosted it’s annual design competition in November. The competition is open to all staff across both London and Leeds studios. This year’s brief was to explore a new a use for the listed “Lifting Tower” at the heart of the public square within the Wellington Place master plan in Leeds. Our client, MEPC asked us to explore ways for the Tower to be brought back into use, with some ancillary facility that would not only support the commercial lead mixed-use community that exists on the site but also benefit the wider community.
A total of seven schemes were shortlisted from an exceptionally high standard of entries. MEPC along with the CJCT Directors had the difficult task of judging. The overall winner was Ben Dakin with his “Stone Greenhouse” Garden Restaurant submission. Highly commended was Rhea Shepherd’s Cycle, Rack, Repair & Snack along with Rachael Hardy’s “The Watchtower”. Congratulations to Ben, Rhea, and Rachael!
