Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher has created design concepts for the interiors of their five new buildings at 140 Wales Farm Road in West London for client Imperial College.
The scheme will provide student accommodation, residential suites for the rental market and mixed-use commercial areas. A contemporary interpretation of the early 20th century perfume factory, the interiors redefine the art deco themes of the original building using a palette of natural materials, together with an interplay of raw finishes & controlled colour accents to create a warm, textural internal environment.
The design approach focuses on addressing the needs of overseas students, and attempts to create a home away from home, making the space as comfortable as possible, and a joy to spend time in. Flexibility and functionality was key to the common areas, with spaces designed to bring the student community together for various events held by the college.
