Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher are very excited to reveal our proposals for a new retail and apart-hotel development on George Street in central Leeds, on behalf of our client Town Centre Securities.
Forming the Northern edge of Leed’s historic Kirkgate Market and directly facing the new Victoria Gate development, the scheme creates a permeable interface between the vibrant market scene and the city’s high-end retail offer.
For over two years, CJCT have worked very closely with key members of Leeds City Council to bring forward a scheme that integrates sensitively with the existing market and makes a positive contribution to the streetscape, with particular regard to the beautifully ornate Grade I listed Leeming House building to the West. The proposals incorporate brick corbelling and fritted glazing to give the elevations a textured and sophisticated feel, while a recessive upper floor with dormer windows creates a varied roofscape when viewed from the street.
The scheme was presented to the Leeds City Plans Panel earlier this month to a very positive response, with one member describing the design as “fabulous”.
