CJCT are proud to unveil South Walks House, located in the Dorset County Town of Dorchester, which was recently completed for Simons Developments.

South Walks House provides 45,000 sq.ft of BREEAM ëExcellentí flexible public facing, office, library and democratic space for West Dorset District Council who have relocated from existing cramped and inefficient offices in the town. CJCT won the commission to design this exciting project in competition with a number of other high profile national practices and commenced design in 2009.

The sensitive nature of the site, which sits directly adjacent to a Scheduled Ancient Monument meant that the design of the scheme and its success rested on detailed discussion and consultation with the Local Authority Planning Department resulting in a solution based on the quality and interplay of brickwork and Purbeck stone prevalent in the local area, with great emphasis placed on the tones and texture of the bricks against the smooth local stone. A key design requirement was to make the building sit materially within its context, providing a striking yet complimentary addition to the Dorchester townscape.
