Northern Ballet Theatre

CJCT were invited to design the new headquarter accommodation for Northern Ballet Theatre and Phoenix Dance within the cultural development of Quarry Hill.

The facilities designed, which are part funded by the Arts Council of England, provide performance, rehearsal and educational studio facilities for both companies with associated ancillary accommodation. This development is the only one of its type in the UK, promoting the active education and union of modern and classical dance within one building.

The overall development also incorporates a private finance initiative to aid the realisation of the scheme in the form of residential and retail accommodation. The design clearly defines the change of use through material and form with a defined structural ‘spine wall’ indicating the division of use.
