Project Description

Before Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher refurbished Leeds’ Civic Court, the Grade II Listed Building, adjacent to Leeds Town Hall, was in a particularly dilapidated state - having many structural problems, including dry and wet rot. Extensive repair to the structure, roof, walls and floors were necessary.

Expansive and detailed consultations were carried out with English Heritage and the Local Planning Authority to reach a commercially acceptable compromise. CJCT sympathetically retained and restored the building, whilst creating an attractive and viable end product. The refurbishment included the introduction of a new staircase and lift shaft and the entrance hall’s repairs used tiles removed from redundant sections of the building for authenticity. The building facades were thoroughly cleaned and were complimented by striking external lights.
