Project Description
The CJCT interiors team were appointed by RMBC for the fit-out of the CJCT architects’ designed, 170,000sqft office building on the banks of the River Don. Working closely with the in-house change management team, CJCT developed a new ‘RMBC Workstyle’ workplace strategy. Through in depth interrogation and testing of the working practices, the team facilitated the introduction of new flexible, mobile and home working schemes.
The Council aimed to reduce permanent staff occupancy levels by 45%, as a result, therefore only 55% of desks within the building were for fixed members of staff, with the remainder being shared at a ratio of seven desks per 10 members of staff. Lockable personal storage was provided for all, maintaining flexibility and encouraging clear desk policies. The ‘RMBC Workstyle’ operates within a fully open plan environment, with cellular offices only provided for special requirements.
Through research, staff consultation and open days, the team were able to identify the most effective desk and furniture solutions to establish space standards and successfully combine teams from four separate town centre locations into one new building for better communication and flexibility.
The result is a building which is not only visually stunning, but which functions with upmost efficiency, and produced an immediate capital saving in construction costs and a significant ongoing saving in the running costs of the office environment.
