Software Centre, Sunderland

The 53,000 sqft state-of-the-art centre has been developed for Sunderland Council and One North East in support of the Regional Science Strategy to promote the growth of companies within the digital sector.

In addition to specialist incubator office space, the scheme provides 20,000sqft of communal areas, including meeting, cafe and conference facilities.

The BREEAM Excellent design utilises passive design features to create a highly adaptable and efficient building form.  The accommodation is arranged in two three-storey wings around a dynamic central atrium ‘street space’.

The building scale and form responds appropriately to its location and re-establishes the urban grain of the architecturally fragmented area through prioritisation of public realm and pedestrian connectivity and the creation of a new pocket park leading through to the Sunniside Conservation Area.
