Project Description

Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher were commissioned to provide 1100 units on a derelict brownfield site in Salford, which lies within the Adelphi Character Area as designated in the Salford Central Development Framework document. The site sits with Adelphi Street to the east and has the River Irwell to the west, offering fantastic views across the Meadows area of Salford and up to the University of Salford’s main campus.
The design responds to the urban nature of Adelphi Street through a confident 6 storey street façade enlivened with ground floor cafes, laundrette, convenience store, living room pods, window patterns and northern tower which acts as a marker to the new road bridge. The layout then opens up through a series of courtyards to the riverside with the accommodation housed in a series of finger blocks that cascade away from the river in height maximising daylight / sunlight into the open spaces.
