The 48,000 sqft Innovation Hub has been constructed on the University of Leeds’ Western Campus and although unashamedly contemporary in styling, it sits comfortably with its older neighbours and helps to reflect the University’s pioneering spirit.
The new building creates a much needed series of flexible spaces for the University’s Bio Incubator facilities, teaching space for non-traditional innovation knowledge transfer activities and a centralised Headquarters of Knowledge Transfer.
The University has always aspired to achieve a ‘very good’ rating under the BREEAM assessment system and this has been achieved by the use of natural materials from renewable sources, rainwater harvesting and the use of displacement internal ventilation which is cooled by exposing the internal concrete soffits to dissipate the heat.
