CJCT was commissioned by the University of Northumbria to design their new gallery extension and to transform the quality and usability of the existing internal gallery space.
The 11m height extension provides an additional 1000sqft of floor space, and includes a majestic double height space for the display of sculptural and wall hung exhibits with a new stair and lift giving access to the main first floor gallery. Entry to the building is via a fully glazed screen wall providing abundant natural lighting and a neutral backdrop for the permanent exhibition of Nicolaus Widerberg’s monumental bronze sculpture ‘Pillar Man’.
During the early part of the commission, CJCT were instrumental in helping the university acquire funding from a number of sources.
