Forming the Northern edge of Leeds’ historic Kirkgate Market and directly facing the new Victoria Gate development, the retail and apart-hotel scheme creates a permeable interface between the vibrant market scene and the city’s high-end shopping offer.
For over two years, CJCT have worked very closely with key members of Leeds City Council to bring forward a scheme that integrates sensitively with the existing market and makes a positive contribution to the streetscape, with particular regard to the beautifully ornate Grade I listed Leeming House building to the West. The proposals incorporate brick corbelling and fritted glazing to give the elevations a textured and sophisticated feel, while a recessive upper floor with dormer windows creates a varied roofscape when viewed from the street.
The scheme was presented to the Leeds City Plans Panel to a very positive response, with one member describing the design as “fabulous”.
