James Burns

James joined CJCT in 2021 having spent over 10 years at Horden Cherry Lee Architects (HCLA). His passion lies in resolving complex programme requirements into beautiful and pragmatic built projects.

At HCLA James gained considerable experience in all stages of design and across a wide range of project types from contemporary interventions in historic buildings through to significant high-rise commercial developments and urban housing schemes. Throughout he has demonstrated his care for design, client service and multi-disciplinary coordination with consultant teams large and small.

Recently, James oversaw the development and management of Finsbury Tower (known as HYLO), a 28 storey landmark office building in the City of London fringe. Finsbury Tower comprised over 280,000sqft of commercial office and retail space and 25 unit affordable housing building for Peabody. On this project he honed skills in advocating for modern design and for managing complex and evolving client requirements.

James is fortunate to have designed and completed projects early in his career which have given him a grounding in developing ambitious yet pragmatic solutions.
