CJCT’s Monk Bridge Quarter and Wellington Place

Once at the heart of 19th century industrial Leeds, the Monk Bridge Viaduct played an important role in connecting the city to the nation’s wider rail network. Today, this Grade II listed structure sits at the heart of three of CJCT’s major regeneration projects that blend the area’s industrial heritage with contemporary urban living.

CJCT have previously shaped the area, masterplanning Wellington Place on the site of the former Leeds Central Station, and now with the development of The Junction, Leeds I, and Leeds II (Latitude sites), have breathed new life into once-dormant brownfield sites. Together, these developments—brought forward by City Developments Limited (The Junction) and HUB (Latitude sites)—will deliver 1,616 new homes, alongside extensive commercial spaces and leisure facilities; building on the now thriving environment of the adjacent Wellington Place quarter. At the centre of this transformation is Yorkshire’s first high-line park, a unique elevated green space built on the historic viaduct which first opened to the public in 2023. CJCT have adapted the viaduct so it creates a strategic link between all three sites.

We have been involved at Monk Bridge for the majority of the past decade overseeing the phased delivery of the three sites and the remarkable transformation of the both the Viaduct and the wider Whitehall area, from its industrial past to the vibrant neighbourhood it’s becoming today. It serves as a thoughtful reinvention of an important part of Leeds, respecting its history while creating a sustainable, thriving community for the future.

We’re proud to have played a part in bringing this vision to life.
