The regeneration of Leeds Kirkgate market took a huge step forward when the Planning and Listed Building application for a new 143 Bedroom hotel, gym and commercial space was unanimously resolved for approval by plans panel last Thursday.
Designed by CJCT for Leeds City Council, the proposals positively enhance George Street, framing its link to the Leeds Playhouse and create a circular economy between Victoria Gate and the Grade I listed Leeming House and the markets.
Architecturally the elegantly proportioned masonry design forms an important and sympathetically designed transition between old and new. Members of the Planning committee were very complimentary of the design and noted “this development will be remarkable for the area”, describing the scheme as “really well designed and considered.”
Congratulations to all those involved, namely Development Managers Town Centre Securities PLC, as well as the wider design team including ADEPT, Hydrock, Quod, Whitbread, BAQUS and RPP.
